Markteinführung der Intel Celeron Prozessoren war am 15.04.1998. Die Schnittstelle zum Mainboard ist bei Verkaufsstart der Slot 1, später dann der Sockel 370 und der Sockel 478. Im Juni 2004 erfolgte der Umstieg auf den Sockel 775 als Schnittstelle für die neueste Celeron D - Generation.

Der Celeron wurde aufgrund seiner niedrigen Herstellungskosten vorrangig in Budget PCs eingebaut.
